University of Calgary Online Casino Study
There have been many studies done on gambling and the online casino in the past, but most of them have been fairly restricted to certain socio-economic groups or problem gamblers. With this fact in mind, the University of Calgary decided to launch an intensive five-year study that would ultimately give the researchers a much broader picture on what affects individuals’ online casino gambling habits. Until now, a lot of information regarding online casino gambling was based on guesswork and the university hopes that the results of its study will allow decisions regarding gambling to be based more on fact.

The University of Calgary wants to find out why people are attracted to social gambling and how many of these social gamblers eventually become addicted to gambling at the online casino. The research will also find out how different factors such as one’s age, social upbringing, race and genetics affect our gambling activities. The university hopes to enlist over 2000 people into the study, making it one of the broadest long-term studies ever to be performed on the subject of gambling. By examining the participants over a five-year period, it is assumed that researchers will obtain a much better picture of what really does influence our gambling habits both at the land-based and online casino.

It is hoped that the results of the research will also help a growing problem in the world at large – gambling addiction. If researchers are aware of who is more at risk to become addicted to gambling, they will be able to provide warnings and assist authorities that treat problem gamblers. This would also help to strengthen regulation in the online casino world and perhaps even legalize it with in the US.
