Online Casino Industry Gets Support From Vegas
The Voice of America, the official international radio and television broadcasting service of the United States federal government, recently published an article in which it examines the repercusions of the recent, anti-online casino, Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. According to the article, most of the gaming industry leaders view the rules as temporary and believe that the law will not substantially affect the online casino industry. “Some of the biggest industry leaders, such as Frank Fahrenkopf from the American Gaming Association, think that the bill won’t stop US gamblers” reports the VOA.

“The people in Las Vegas view the law totally different than those in Washington. They are very skeptical about it, and they believe that eventually online casino sites will exist under strict regulation” adds the VOA. Rob Stilwell from Boyd Gaming says in the report that he believes that US online casino companies will be allowed to enter the US market, as it is all a matter of licensing and regulation. “I think that the US government will shortly realize that the people will continue to gamble on the Internet, no matter what, which makes a regulation sytem the better option” sayd Stilwell.

According to the article, US officials set June 2007 as a deadline to find ways to enforce the new rules, which are in total contradiction to the measures being taken in most other parts of the world. The UK, for example, is already looking for ways to smartly regulate online casino sites, while benefitting from it. Britain has already warned the US that the current prohibition will online drive the online casino industry underground, but it seems that some people in Washington know better.
