To Beat Casinos or Join Them
Would it make sense to create online casinos for the United States, or to try to do so, in conjunction with the lotteries of each state, or maybe even the interstate Powerball lottery? It isn’t as wild an idea as you may think. The U.S. government has a big problem with online casinos because it is afraid of a gigantically unregulated industry taking money from Americans. Yes, it would be smart for the U.S. government to co-opt online casinos and try to regulate them a bit, but most companies that operate online casinos are based offshore and thus not subject to U.S. authorities or consumer protection statutes.

But imagine this: State lotteries creating online casinos of their own, sponsored, regulated and taxed by the U.S. government, with American’s winnings taxed by the government, and Americans free to gamble online. Of course, giving legitimacy to American online casinos – some – would give the impression that the U.S. would accept Americans wagering money at offshore casinos – or all of the ones that aren’t based in one way or another in the States. Still, this wouldn’t be so bad – and isn’t bad, if Americans are winning money at any sort of online casino, as some or most of that money would likely be spent in the United States helping to fuel the American economy.

So think about it, U.S. government. Make online casinos of your own, or somehow enable foreign casinos to gain legitimacy, regulate them, tax them and let Americans (within reason and without deliberately harming national security interests) spend their money how they like to keep the global economy and the American economy flowing and steaming along. It would be a shame if the United States failed to win over online casinos before America loses its influence and ability to regulate them in a meaningful way.
