According to reports in the British online casino industry, one of online casino group 888’s original multi-millionaire shareholders will be joining the firm’s board as a director. Former Israeli dentist Aharon Shaked will join his brother Avi and co-owners the Ben-Yitzhak family on the board of the third largest online casino company in the world. Shaked originally founded the gaming firm in 1997 together with his brother and the Ben-Yitzhak’s.
The Shaked brothers made their fortunes last year when the floatation of their online casino shares on the London Stock Exchange generated a record number of investors. The brothers made collectively over 100 million pounds sterling in the floatation and still retain shares worth GBP 311 million today. The online casino group, which operates a large international poker site, relies heavily on online casino players in the U.S., which generate approximately 55 percent of the firm’s annual revenue.
Avi Shaked made headlines late last year when he announced his plans to run as a Labour candidate in the upcoming Israeli elections. The online casino boss adopted a unique election campaign, referring to himself as a socialist first and a millionaire second. Despite his success in the online casino industry, Shaked has been actively involved in politics since the 1980’s and claims to have a keen interest in combating social issues such as poverty and low education levels.
