AOL to Launch Online Casino
One of the internet’s oldest and most well known service providers is intending to develop its own online casino site. In a press statement last week, AOL announced plans to join the online casino industry by establishing its own online casino site specializing in blackjack. The site will act as a portal to enable casino fans to access a range of blackjack resources and will be designed by Game Show Network.

Billed to go live at the end of April, the online casino site will feature free blackjack games, tips and advice from the professionals and ongoing information and coverage on the World Series of Blackjack scheduled to take place this summer. Ralph Riveral, AOL’s general manager, has stated that online casino products such as poker and blackjack have become popular amongst AOL’s mainstream audience, not just among online casino fans. While the company’s partnership with Harrah’s Entertainment is well known for its creation of the World Series of Poker website, AOL is also focussing individual attention on other gaming products. In particular, a new project to incorporate online and interactive TV games is already creating interest among gaming fans.

The number of internet and gaming firms moving into the online casino industry continues to grow. Several British media companies have recently purchased significant shareholdings in online casino firms in an attempt to solidify interests. The creation of strategic partnerships between firms is predicted to be amongst the key trends taking place in the industry this year, along with cross-selling and diversification.
